Timing for Grafting and Implant Placement After Extraction

Recent studies have shown the impact of the extraction procedure in the alveolar bone and subsequent implant rehabilitation.

Immediate or delayed implant placement, ridge preservation procedures and staged grafts and implant placement are the possible choices to rehabilitate the patient that will loose a tooth. The decision making process regarding timing and technique has to be decided before the tooth is removed, in order to optimize outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

1) Understand the biological effects of tooth extraction.
2) Recognize different moments for implant placement, and/or bone and soft tissue in relation to the extraction.
